Bolts, nuts and screws on a bicycle can vibrate loose and fall off the bicycle during a ride. To prevent this from happening, fasteners should be checked for tightness on a regular basis, and if torque specs are available, they should be tightened to the proper torque spec. The more you ride the more often this should be done, but sticking to a routine maintenance schedule is often times easier said than done. For those bolts, nuts and screws that give you problems you can apply a product to the fastener threads commonly called Blue Loctite. This product comes in liquid form and is applied to the fastener threads and will harden and help prevent the bolt, nut or screw from vibrating loose. Its a common item and should be available at any auto parts store, or can be purchased online. It is sometimes called by different names and made by different manufacturers, but any person working in an auto parts store should know what blue loctite is. Follow this procedure to apply to a threaded fastener:
- Make sure the threads are clean and dry.
- Shake the container of Blue Loctite
- Remove cap and snip nozzle tip if sealed
- Apply to fastener threads and assemble
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.“
