The Roadmaster Granite Peak 24 inch girls mountain bike is only sold at Walmart. If you purchase the bicycle and it is not assembled by a Walmart employee, than you are given a partially assembled bicycle in a box. The parts you need to assemble are: install the seat and seat post, install the handle bar and steering stem, install the front wheel and install the pedals.

Roadmaster Granite Peak Seat and Seat Post

The seat comes attached to the seat post. To install the seat you simple insert the seat post into the frame, but before you do this you should apply antiseize or a lithium grease to the seat post to help prevent corrosion. Seat posts are notorious for rusting and freezing inside the frame making it impossible to adjust the seat. Also, there is a minimum insertion mark on the seat post. The seat post should be inserted far enough into the frame so this insertion mark is not visible. If this isn’t done, than you can damage the frame. The bicycle comes with a quick release clamp on the frame to clamp the seat post in place.

Roadmaster Granite Peak Steering Stem Post Quill

Roadmaster Granite Peak Steering Stem Post Quill

The Roadmaster Granite Peak bicycle comes with a quill type steering stem. This type of steering attaches to the bicycle by tightening the stem binder bolt, which causes the special steering stem nut (don’t know the official name) to make contact with the stem at an angle. This angle causes the special nut to bind inside the steering tube and secures the steering stem to the bicycle. Before installing the stem post, lightly lube the stem post with anti seize or lithium grease to help prevent corrosion. Apply a light coating of grease to the special nut where it makes contact with the stem post. Be aware of the minimum insertion mark on the stem post when adjusting the stem height. This mark should be blow the headset and not be visible. After you find the correct height and aligning the handle bars, tighten down the stem binder bolt with a 6 mm allen wrench. Rotate the handle bars back and forth and check for free play, and make sure no cables are routed incorrectly and binding. Adjust the handlebar by loosening the loosening the handlebar binder bolt with a 6mm allen wrench.

Roadmaster Granite Peak Front Wheel Axle Nut and Washer

The front wheel attaches to the front fork dropouts with two axle nuts and washers. Before you attach the front wheel find the rotation arrow on the tire sidewall and make sure the wheel in positioned correctly so the wheel rotates in the direction of the arrow. You will also need to release the front brake pad levers by removing brake cable noodle, so the brake pads will spread apart far enough to attach the front wheel. Insert the front wheel axle into the front fork dropouts so the axle nut and washer on each side of the wheel is on the outside of each fork dropout. Part of the axle washer fits inside a small hole located above the fork dropouts. Make sure the washers are fitted correctly and the axle is push all the way into the fork dropouts, than tighten the axle nuts with a 15 mm wrench. Check wheel rotation and wheel alignment, than reattach the brake cable noodle.

The Roadmaster Granite Peak bicycle comes with 2 pedals. Each pedal is labeled left or right, and which side of the bicycle is left or right is determined when sitting on the bicycle. The right pedal has right hand threads and is turned clockwise into the right crank to tighten the pedal. The left pedal has left hand threads and is turned counter clockwise into the left crank to tighten the pedal. Before installing the pedals apply a light coating of anti seize or lithium grease to the threads on the pedals. This will help prevent corrosion and make it easier to remove the pedals. A pedal wrench or a 15 mm wrench can be used to tighten the pedals.

After the bicycle is assembled add the proper air pressure to each tire. The correct PSI is labeled on the sidewall of each tire, and the correct air pressure is 50 psi.
